NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY (2005)

This directorial debut of actress LisaGay Hamilton, "BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS" celebrates the life of legendary African American actress, poet and political activist Beah Richards, best known for her Oscar-nominated role in "GUESS WHO"S COMING TO DINNER." While Richards struggled to overcome racial stereotypes throughout her long career on stage and on screen in Hollywood and New York, she also had an influential role in the fight for civil rights, working alongside the likes of Paul Robeson, W.E.B. I am blessed, strengthen and equipped with assurance that I have a place and voice in this world and with my voice and stance this world isn't complete by watching this dynamic documentary tonight. A well needed reminder of what I'm made of by being born Black...what a legacy to live UP to. Thanks you Ms. Richards for your courage to claim and define your beauty and worth - I will purchase and save this for my 5 year old daughter. Bravo!

My earliest memory of Ms Richrads was "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner". I had no idea of the depth and scope of Ms Richard's talents and influence on other African American actors. I was spellbound by this documentary and I will buy it give and share this gift with others. Thank you LisaGay Hamilton for bringing the story of Ms Beah Richards to us all.
